Keeping things simple and natural has been the motto since 1972. We strive to continue producing products following these methods while also meeting our organic standards put in place by Pro-Cert Canada.
Before we had become certified, our farming methods were still simple and natural. The land we farmed was pure, no chemicals, pesticides or herbicides were used on the crops. The only exception to fertilizer used was the manure from our cattle that we would spread on our fields.
Our cattle were raised on the home farm, on clean and pure soil where they grazed 100 acres of pasture. Our steers had the same luxury, with the exception of the grain finish they were given. A non-GMO peas, oats and barley mixture. The grain mixture given to the steers was sowed, grown and harvested by us. Our cattle were as natural as possible, no hormone injections or enhancers, just purely living off the land.
Like anything, there have been standard operating procedures and guidelines put in place by Pro-Cert to ensure the proper steps to an organic farm and herd are maintained, however, much of these guidelines reflect our original motto of a simple and natural way to raise the steers for product. The only small thing that has changed in our farming methods is the simplicity of technology and newer farm equipment to help get the job done more efficiently and sometimes faster.
