How it Started
The family farm was started in 1967 in Kettleby, Ontario. My parents, Bill and Ingrid Madden, started with 5 cows, an Oliver tractor, a hay bine, a wagon and a small square hay baler with which they had to tie the twine on every fifth bale by hand. From those humble beginnings we move to a farm just west of Thornton in 1972 and established Thor Farms. We had a few steers as beef for the family that were grass-fed with a grain finish.
Where we are now
We had always farmed with cattle, now we have focused on raising a black angus herd for beef. We moved on to become certified organic by Pro-Cert in 2019 and have changed our name to Thorganic Farms. My wife, Kari, and I with the help of our children work with my parents. We have always kept things simple and natural. Now we are raising our calves to provide natural meat for the public through our online store, farm gate store and farmers markets that we attend in our local area.
We would like to thank everyone who has supported us in our endeavour and we look forward to serving you in future.
